Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Emergency Department (PRN/Casual) (Mid-Shift)

Join Ortho Nebraska as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the Emergency Department. Under the supervision of registered nurses, you will provide patient care, assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), monitor vital signs, report changes in condition, perform EKGs, apply durable medical equipment, stock supplies, chart in the electronic health record (EHR), and maintain a clean and safe environment. The position is casual/PRN with a mid‑shift schedule (11 a.m. – 11 p.m.).

This role supports patient care in a fast‑paced emergency department, ensuring high‑quality care and safety for all patients. The job description covers key responsibilities and may evolve with new duties assigned as needed.

Position Requirements
  • High School Education or GED required.
  • Registered with the State of Nebraska as a CNA.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • 1+ year customer service experience (health‑care setting required).
Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Basic medical terminology and effective communication skills.
  • Critical thinking for quick decision‑making and detail orientation while maintaining a calm bedside manner.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to engage and support patients and team members.
  • Flexibility to meet departmental needs.
Essential Job Functions
  • Perform basic patient care functions per protocols, policies, and procedures, under the direction of licensed nursing personnel.
  • Interact with patients and health‑care professionals using appropriate communication skills to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality of care.
  • Handle clerical tasks and patient registration activities for efficient workflow.
  • Follow detailed verbal or written instructions and use judgment for routine situations.
  • Maintain patient medical records accurately and protect sensitive information.
  • Perform supply inventory tasks to support unit operations.
  • Comply with safety activities, policies and procedures, and regulatory requirements such as OSHA and The Joint Commission.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

This position is classified as Medium Work. Required exertion ranges from 20 – 50 pounds occasionally, 10 – 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical demand exceeds light work.

Additional Requirements

Must pass a background check, pre‑employment physical, drug screening, and obtain/maintain active licensure. Job offers are contingent upon completion of these screenings.
