Immanuel Communities is seeking a Therapeutic Recreational Specialist to work at Newport House, located at 6798 North 67th Plaza, Omaha, NE 68152. Newport House features 24 skilled nursing and rehabilitation suites, along with 72 long‑term care suites.
This is a full‑time position with typical work hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., including one evening per week and one weekend day per month. The schedule may vary based on activity planning and organizational needs. Candidates must be available to work during their scheduled hours and should maintain flexibility to accommodate weekly schedule changes.
Pay will be based upon experience, certifications, skills, and education.

The overall purpose of this job is to provide opportunities for residents/patients to engage in continuing life experiences. The Therapeutic Recreation Program is geared toward maintaining dignity and independence and contributing to the therapeutic environment in the long‑term care, skilled, and subacute rehabilitation areas of the facility. The program encompasses group and individual activities and includes emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual, creative and community components.
Primary responsibilities include working collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team – including residents and family members, physicians, pastoral care, pharmacy, nursing, volunteers, vendors, and other staff members. Interacts effectively with adult and geriatric populations including persons with physical disabilities, vision and hearing limitations, and memory/behavioral impairments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy or related field.
- Two (2) years’ experience as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
- Additional experience in therapeutic recreation within a skilled nursing facility.
- Completion of Nebraska‑certified “Activity Coordinator” course or certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist within 6 months of hire.
- Equivalent years of education may substitute for experience requirement.
