Work Schedule:
Tuesday-Friday, 6:30am to 5:00pm
Allied health professional working as a part of the team delivering surgical care by assisting physicians and maintaining a sterile field during surgical procedure through consistent application of aseptic techniques.
Responsibilities- Preoperative preparation.
- Review physician preference list before operative procedure and assemble supplies and equipment needed for the procedure.
- Open sterile supplies using sterile technique.
- Transfer medications and solutions to the sterile field according to policy.
- Communicate clearly and collaborate with other members of the perioperative team to prepare operative procedure.
- Function as scrub person during operative procedure by preparing, monitoring, and maintaining a sterile field.
- Complete surgical scrub according to policy.
- Perform scrub duties in an accurate, concise and timely manner.
- Wear appropriate personal protective apparel (PPA) and follow standard and policy for attire in the operating room.
- Organize and maintain sterile instruments and supplies in an organized manner.
- Perform counts according to facility policy and procedure during procedure and hand-off situations.
- Assist with draping sterile field according to standard.
- Watch progress of the operation and anticipate needs of team members.
- Disassemble instruments and equipment, and transport to processing department.
- Assist with cleaning room and prepare for subsequent procedure.
- Apply base knowledge and principles during operative procedure (Intraoperative Surgical).
- Maintain base knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology and pharmacology for optimal surgical patient care.
- Understand principles of computer science, electricity and robotics as needed for surgical patient care.
- Follow policy and procedure for Intraoperative Surgical procedures.
- Participate in surgical time-out, fire risk assessment, and case summary for each operative procedure.
- Identify labels and handle specimens including hand-off situations and disposition of specimens.
- Demonstrate collegiality and leadership qualities.
- Demonstrate awareness of, and participation in performance improvement activities.
- Report potential performance improvement problems to coordinators, core nurse and service leader, and assist in problem solving.
- Maintain compliance with department call requirements, and adjust hours to meet patient services.
- Eligible to seat preceptor training and serve as a mentor.
- Collaborate with specialty coordinator and Staff Development Nurse on completion of orientation processes including orientation map, core competencies and assignments.
- Document ongoing process of orienting staff and assist in mentoring.
- Participate in orientation of team members to new equipment and supplies.
- Achieve or maintain certification in profession, Certified Surgical Technologist.
- Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria.
- Demonstrate ability to identify opportunities for and provide individualized customer service/patient care according to customer/patient needs.
