Position SummaryConducts testing using molecular methods on wastewater samples to support the National Wastewater Surveillance System program for the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory (NPHL). Follow all safety and laboratory policies and procedures, maintain required documentation, maintain instrumentation and required resources, support laboratory training, support research testing as needed; and completes necessary documentation, results reporting, and educational support while communicating effectively with partnering agencies at the local, state and national levels.
Works with NPHL leadership and staff in the coordination of state and national programs that are relevant to laboratory activities.

Required Education
- Biology, Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Biology, or other lab related science field.
- Will accept a Bachelor’s of General Studies with provisions of 42
CFR
493 met.
Required Experience
- 3 years molecular biology experience in a research or clinical laboratory setting.
Required License
- No license required.
Required Computer Applications
- Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook

Required Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
- Skilled in laboratory methodology and techniques.
- Ability to analyze, document and interpret scientific and statistical data.
- Effective communication skills, initiative, teamwork and flexibility.
- Individual may be required to pass a respirator fit test.
Preferred Education
- Biology, Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Biology, or other lab related science field.
Preferred Experience
- More than 3 years progressive experience in a relevant laboratory setting with some experience in molecular biology.
Preferred License
- Certification or certification eligible by agencies such as the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) or the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
Preferred Computer Applications
- NCBI, Genbank, and Adobe.
