Overview

Supervisor Sterile Processing - Overnights at Children's Nebraska. Monday - Friday  with rotating call and weekends.

This role involves supervising and managing Sterile Processing operations to support the OR, Anesthesia, Procedure Room, and Sterile Core, with a focus on quality, safety, and efficiency.

Essential Functions
  • Monitors compliance with policies and procedures, AAMI guidelines, infection control policies, and other regulatory agencies (JCAHO).
  • Directs the preparation of sterile supplies, instruments and equipment. Coordinates routine activities of the Sterile Processing staff, plans and schedules work for the group.
  • Responsible for tracking sterile processing data, performance improvement documentation, and administrative records.
  • Maintains an adequate level of instruments in circulation, reorders replacements when necessary, and schedules and controls all instrumentation repairs in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
  • Serves as the administrator of the SPM instrument tracking system; is expert in all facets of its operation, maintains and updates the database as necessary, and produces monthly reports and documentation as requested by the Distribution Manager and Director of Materials Management.
  • Coordinates and ensures CEUs are available for staff to maintain current certification status.
  • Mentors and provides guidance to staff for continued development and expectations of the department.
  • Coordinates and supervises department functions to ensure service quality and continuity of care.
  • Personnel Management: prioritizes and coordinates daily work activities; provides leadership and guidance; approves schedules and monitors time worked.
  • Trains and/or oversees the training of employees on job-related tasks.
  • Conducts employee performance management duties including performance evaluations, goal setting, coaching, and addressing performance issues; may recommend termination of employment.
  • Submits notifications for personnel actions (e.g., status changes, terminations); may participate in selection, hiring, and salary recommendations.
  • Operational/Financial Management: ensures cost-effective use of resources by adjusting staff allocation and supplies; ensures compliance with quality assurance, safety practices, policies and recordkeeping standards.
  • May assist with the development and maintenance of policies and procedures and participate in the implementation of business plans for the area.
  • May assist with annual budget by tracking expenses and providing input for future budget needs.
  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job. Performs physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section.
Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in science, or related field preferred.
Experience Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of healthcare Sterile Processing or Surgical Technologist experience required.
  • Minimum 1 year’s supervisory experience preferred, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Skills And Abilities
  • Analytical abilities to resolve employee and process problems.
  • Interpersonal skills to educate, motivate, and coordinate employee performance.
Licenses And Certifications
  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist required, or
  • Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician required.
  • Employees with Surgical Technologist certification must obtain the Sterile Processing Technician certification within 1 year.
