Behavioral Health Therapist

Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Therapist 1 is part of the primary care treatment team and works under the supervision of an assigned clinical supervisor to ensure appropriate clinical knowledge and clinical record documentation. The BHT1 (Behavioral Health Therapist) welcomes, inspires and provides hope within a safe environment. Under supervision, the BHT1 identifies and manages patients with behavioral health problems and provides quality mental health interventions for diverse populations.

The BHT1 develops specific behavioral change plans for patients under close supervision and has the ability and flexibility to treat patients across the CDHC enterprise regardless of age, economic status, gender, gender identity, ethnicity or race.

• Assist primary health care providers in recognizing and treating mental disorders and psychosocial problems.
• Assess the clinical status of patients referred.
• Complete clinical documentation according to policies and procedures (CDHC and DHHS 206 regulations).
• Work with the primary care team to treat and manage patients with chronic emotional and/or mental health problems.
• Assist in the detection of “at risk” patients and the development of relapse plans to prevent further psychological or physical complications.
• Attend and participate in required meetings and activities.
• Serve as a trustworthy member of the Behavioral Health Team.
• Abide by State and Federal guidelines related to ethics, conduct, billing submission and therapeutic relationships.
• Work diligently and professionally with internal and external partners.
• Work effectively with adolescent populations, their families and other identified members.
• Be comfortable with use of Windows operating systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
• If provisional, meet all requirements of the state of Nebraska and agree to close supervision.
• Actively work towards obtaining full LIMHP credential.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Education: Master’s Degree
• Experience: At least one year of experience working closely with youth and families in a close capacity
• Licensure: Licensed as a Provisional Mental Health Therapist in the State of Nebraska (PLMHP) required; fully licensed (LIMHP) preferred.
• Expertise: Working towards knowledge of evidence-based treatments for mental health conditions. Comfort in collaborating with primary care providers using a consultative style. Ability to conduct brief patient contacts, including via telephone and teleconferencing under supervision. Ability to design and implement clinical pathways and protocols for treatment of selected mental and behavioral conditions with supervision as needed. Ability to work effectively as a team and represent CDHC’s interests in the community, maintaining relationships with co-workers, public and private groups.

• Work Hours: Combination of traditional and non-traditional hours (weekends and late evenings)
• Travel: Local, intrastate, and interstate as necessary
• Exposure: The role may involve exposure to fumes or airborne particles and hazardous chemicals; potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens; and variable noise levels. Personal protective equipment and controls are provided to minimize risk.
