Job Description

Providing for loved ones, planning rewarding retirements, saving enough for whatever lies ahead - our policyholders count on us to be there when it matters most. It's a big ask, but it's one that we have the power to deliver when we work together. We collaborate and innovate - pushing one another to transform not just Pacific Life, but the entire industry for the better.

Why? Because it's the right thing to do. Pacific Life is more than a job, it's a career with purpose. It's a career where you have the support, balance, and resources to make a positive impact on the future - including your own.

We're actively seeking a talented Compliance Consultant with a focus on leave and absence programs to join our Workforce Benefits legal support team in Newport Beach, CA, or Omaha, NE.

As a Compliance Consultant focusing on leave and absence with our Workforce Benefits legal support team you'll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by providing legal and compliance support to the Workforce Benefits team in monitoring, interpreting, and implementing federal and state statutory requirements and providing operational support for paid family and medical leave, disability, and other mandated leave related insurance programs.

You will fill a new role that sits on a team of five people in the Office of General Counsel, supporting the Workforce Benefits division. Your colleagues will include legal counsel for Workforce Benefits and fellow compliance professionals.

How you'll help move us forward:

  • Monitor, interpret, and advise on federal, state, and local laws governing paid family leave, disability benefits, statutory leave programs, and related insurance regulations.

  • Partner with legal, product, and compliance teams to ensure that Pacific Life's offerings are designed and administered in accordance with state mandated program requirements.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on regulatory requirements for state leave and income replacement programs (e.g., PFML, statutory disability, paid sick leave mandates, program updates, and rule making developments).

  • Partner with the operations teams to support and develop business operating practices, administrative procedures, and internal controls within company standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Evaluate regulatory changes in conjunction with the Enterprise Compliance Regulatory Affairs team and coordinate implementation across product and operational teams.

  • Develop and maintain compliance documentation, policies, controls, and procedural guidance related to statutorily regulated leave programs.

  • Develop training and compliance guidance for internal teams regarding program requirements, statutory updates, and administration obligations.

  • Ensure appropriate handling of sensitive program information in accordance with privacy and confidentiality requirements.

The experience you bring:

  • 10+ years of experience including legal or compliance roles in insurance or financial services.

  • Strong STD, LTD, statutory disability and PFML experience.

  • 4-year degree or equivalent experience.

  • Proven leadership in cross-functional teams and influence at all management levels.

  • Strong project management skills; adept at balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication, presentation and relationship management abilities.

  • Strategic thinker with a record of delivering results and driving innovation.

  • Experience and knowledge of leave management and/or group Life/AD&D insurance a plus.

What makes you stand out:

  • Experience in a legal department supporting workforce benefits group products.

  • Knowledge of group life, health, and disability product offerings and operational support.

  • Ability to analyze legislation, regulations, and guidance and translate them into actionable compliance requirements.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.

  • Experience supporting product development, product compliance, insurance filings, or regulated program administration.

  • Certifications such as SHRMCP, PHR, CCP, or insurance compliance credentials are a plus.

You can be who you are.
