Role Summary

The Oracle to Postgre

SQL Subject Matter Expert (SME) will provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise for the assessment, migration, and optimization of enterprise Oracle database environments to Postgre

SQL. The SME will support the RFP engagement by defining migration strategy, estimating effort, mitigating risks, and ensuring performance, security, and data integrity throughout the transition.

• Lead end-to-end database migration initiatives from Oracle to Postgre
  
  SQL, including planning, design, execution, validation, and post-migration support.
• Conduct detailed current-state assessments of Oracle databases, schemas, PL/SQL code, dependencies, and integrations.
• Define migration approach and architecture, including re-platforming, re-engineering, or hybrid strategies.
• Analyze and convert Oracle-specific features (PL/SQL, packages, triggers, sequences, materialized views, partitioning, RAC, ASM, etc.) to Postgre
  
  SQL-compatible constructs.
• Recommend and implement schema, data, and code conversion strategies, including automation tools and manual remediation where required.
• Provide guidance on performance tuning, indexing strategies, query optimization, and workload benchmarking in Postgre
  
  SQL.
• Ensure data consistency, validation, and reconciliation between Oracle and Postgre
  
  SQL environments.
• Address security, compliance, and governance requirements, including role mappings, encryption, auditing, and access controls.
• Support application teams in resolving database-related issues arising from migration.
• Develop migration estimates, timelines, and risk mitigation plans to support RFP responses.
• Produce technical documentation including migration runbooks, architecture diagrams, and best practices.
• Mentor internal teams and transfer knowledge on Postgre
  
  SQL administration and operations.

• 10+ years of experience working with enterprise Oracle databases (11g, 12c, 19c or later).
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Postgre
  
  SQL in production environments.
• Proven experience leading or supporting large-scale Oracle to Postgre
  
  SQL migration projects.
• Strong expertise in:
• Oracle PL/SQL and Postgre
  
  SQL procedural languages (PL/pgSQL)
• Schema and data migration strategies
• Performance tuning and query optimization
• High availability, replication, and backup/recovery concepts
• Experience with migration tools such as AWS DMS, Ora2
  
  Pg, pg Loader, Flyway, Liquibase, or similar.
• Strong understanding of application-to-database integration patterns.
• Ability to assess technical risks and propose pragmatic solutions under tight timelines.
