Responsibilities
Join OPPD as a Senior Database Engineer! We’re looking for a seasoned Senior Database Engineer professional to lead the design, maintenance, and security of our enterprise database infrastructure. In this role, you’ll manage database life cycles, optimize performance, and ensure high functionality through rigorous quality checks. You’ll collaborate across teams including application development, data solutions, infrastructure, networking, and cybersecurity to deliver robust, scalable systems that support OPPD’s mission.
As a technical expert in Oracle or Microsoft RDBMS, you’ll also mentor junior team members and guide best practices, while contributing to the roadmap for future database technologies. If you have deep database expertise, broad IT knowledge, and a passion for innovation, we want you on our team!
- Design and maintain database solutions aligned with architectural standards.
- Create technical specifications and design documents.
- Plan, implement, and maintain database systems, including upgrades, patches, and performance monitoring.
- Automate administration processes with scripts and interfaces.
- Optimize databases for performance, availability, and reliability.
- Build and implement high-quality data storage solutions.
- Support integration with application delivery and BI processes.
- Perform testing, documentation, and quality assurance for database components.
- Collaborate with developers and cross-functional teams to ensure secure, reliable data solutions.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (standups, sprint planning, retrospectives).
- Mentor and coach Database Engineers and Associate DBAs.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and project teams to deliver solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Systems or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience in database administration or engineering, with deep technical knowledge in database administration, database engineering, OS configuration, software engineering, database architecture, data integration, and data processing.
- Experience in providing technical leadership for Database Engineers, Application and Business Intelligence engineers.
- Advanced knowledge in database architectures and SQL standard languages, T‑SQL and/or PL/SQL.
- Advanced knowledge in Windows and/or Linux OS systems as well as in Shell and Power Shell scripting.
- Advanced knowledge in protocols such as DNS, LDAP, SMTP and HTTP.
- Advanced knowledge of Cloud Database Technologies such as Azure and/or Oracle Cloud.
- Strong understanding of data integrity concepts and enterprise data standardizations.
- Familiarity with data warehousing and data integration.
- Familiarity with VMWare and SAN management/concepts.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent technical and professional communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to work independently and effectively collaborate with minimum supervision.
- Must possess exceptional organizational skills, creative problem‑solving skills, and flexibility in changing priorities.
- Must be a team player with the ability to share knowledge and develop peers for the overall benefit of the team and organization.
- Master’s degree in management information systems, Information Systems or Computer Science

BI, IBM Cognos, Informatica, SSIS, OEM, Idera, and Erwin Data Modeling tool.
