Position Overview
UNIX/Linux OS Administrator – GDIT, Offutt AFB, NE
Responsible for administering and securing Linux/Unix environments for USSTRATCOM’s critical national security missions. Work includes system maintenance, security hardening, and 24/7 IT service support for classified networks.
Responsibilities- Perform system administration for enterprise Linux/Unix solutions.
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux/Unix operating systems.
- Analyze and resolve issues related to servers, hardware, applications, and software.
- Monitor system performance and ensure compliance with security standards.
- Manage daily operations of all Linux servers and associated resources.
- Configure and deploy virtual machines, including backup and recovery procedures.
- Maintain patch releases, design patch strategies, and keep systems updated per program standards.
- Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 troubleshooting support and interface with end‑users and technical teams.
- Conduct Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance assessments, harden Linux systems per DoD standards, and uphold security policies.
- BS degree in a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of IT/DoD systems administration experience.
- Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
- Required certifications: ITIL 4 Foundation (within 9 months of start) and one of GFACT, CND, Security+, or GSEC.
- Strong experience with Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE).
- Experience with VMware, Hyper‑V, KVM, or cloud‑based VMs.
- Knowledge of security hardening standards (DISA STIGs, CIS benchmarks).
- OS patching and vulnerability remediation expertise.
- SELinux or App Armor experience.
- Firewall rule management (firewalld, iptables).
- Secure configuration of SSH, PAM, and sudo policies.
- Strong communication skills for troubleshooting and translating technical issues.
- Incident response and root‑cause analysis capabilities.
- Ability to collaborate with networking, storage, and security teams.

Salary range: $120,275 – $162,725 (subject to experience and location).
