Job Overview
Pacific Life is investing in its global network and security to support its digital transformation journey. We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join a small team in our Newport Beach, CA or Omaha, NE location. The role is hybrid and involves designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting a growing network infrastructure while collaborating with the corporate security team to build protective controls for our environment.
Responsibilities- Implement products, platforms, software, hardware, or appliance-based solutions related to network and network security.
- Interface with management and vendors to develop and implement new solutions that meet business requirements.
- Design and manage the rollout of various network infrastructures, including capacity planning, performance tuning, and configuration optimization.
- Perform network maintenance and system upgrades, including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations.
- Maintain network security across the global enterprise; analyze networks for security threats, monitor for breaches, and investigate violations when they occur.
- Use network tools for administration, maintenance, automation, and visualization reporting.
- Develop technical documentation describing the deployment, configuration, and management of network infrastructure.
- Participate in IT security audits, respond to audit findings, and ensure required controls are implemented.
- Build strong relationships outside of IT to understand business needs, communicate complex details in an understandable way, and advocate for end users and stakeholders.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in IT, configuring and installing various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS).
- Advanced technical skills with L2 and L3 protocols and technologies such as IPSec, DMVPN, BGP, OSPF, VPC, QoS, 802.1x, and familiarity with Cisco IOS, IOS‑XE and NXOS.
- Experience with platforms including Net Scaler, F5, Riverbed, Palo Alto, Cisco Catalyst, ISR, ASR, Nexus, ASA/FTD;
Cisco ACI is a plus. - Understanding of open‑source and other tools for monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Certifications such as Cisco CCNP or Cisco CCIE are preferred.
- Flexible schedule, including the ability to work nights and weekends.
- B.S./M.S. in Engineering and/or Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Newport Beach, CA: $135,000 – $165,000
Omaha, NE: $116,000 – $141,000
