Assistant Buyer – Walman Optical
As an Assistant Buyer, you will be responsible for ensuring all purchases follow inventory guidelines, drive timely fulfillment, maintain accurate inventory levels and vendor information, and collaborate with the Purchasing team to improve buying processes.
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Coordinate and process all purchasing activities, including vendor management, inventory stockouts, usage tools, invoicing, returns, and audits.
- Process purchase orders based on inventory needs and the purchasing schedule.
- Track and resolve back‑order issues and handle manual reporting and audits.
- Maintain professional communication with internal and external customers and vendors.
- Establish new vendor relationships, negotiate rates, and identify alternative vendor options.
- Update records in Solomon with vendor costs, vendor source, lead times, and vendor codes.
- Collaborate with inter‑departmental teams and vendors to determine lead times and other factors affecting purchases.
- Notify leadership of escalated issues such as inventory coverage changes, vendor cost increases, or purchase‑order date impacts.
- Trace inbound/outbound shipments and follow up on past‑due deliveries.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including developing tools for usage review and reordering efficiencies.
- Process debit memos and product returns to the correct department or vendor.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
- 2-3 years of purchasing experience or a related field.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
- Knowledge of purchasing and inventory best practices.
- Experience improving processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage priorities, workflow, and implement actions.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Systems literacy – Microsoft Dynamics, SAP preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Employee pay is determined by factors including geography, experience, qualifications, skills, and local minimum wage requirements.
