Job Summary
The Commodity Manager – Professional Services leads and manages aspects of the Global Supply Management process for corporate and professional services. This role identifies and drives productivity within these categories, provides technical proficiency, and networks with Valmont stakeholders to build a strong project funnel and support cross‑functional initiatives (Marketing, HR, Legal, Admin, Travel, Benefits, etc.). The manager negotiates costs and terms within professional services categories to achieve improved costs, mitigate risk, and ensure the supply base has the capacity and capability to meet current and future requirements.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with corporate teams on sourcing projects, keeping informed of significant market risks, and coordinating activities with the Global Sourcing team.
Essential Functions- Report to the Director of Global Indirect and have no direct reports.
- Oversee all cost‑management matters for assigned categories.
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies, including e‑sourcing events, negotiations, data analysis, contract lifecycle management, supplier development, and selection.
- Optimize costs, working capital, and terms while minimizing financial and operational risk.
- Ensure adequate service levels, appropriate costs, and supply chain capacity.
- Monitor supplier performance, capacity, and compliance with Valmont’s agreements.
- Implement and maintain KPIs to track and improve supply base performance.
- Conduct recurring business reviews with suppliers and enforce contract compliance.
- Build stakeholder alignment for cross‑functional initiatives.
- Identify and develop suppliers for new product development and corporate initiatives.
- Apply technical sourcing expertise across corporate spend and professional services.
- Manage large‑enterprise deals and coordinate project timelines for on‑time completion.
- Enforce procurement policies, source‑related compliance, and risk mitigation plans.
- Provide issue resolution support between Valmont and suppliers.
- Develop change‑management strategies and communicate solutions to stakeholders and suppliers.
- Manage supplier relationships to meet safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and other business terms.
- Negotiate competitive contracts and beneficial agreements.
- Support a continuous‑improvement culture that encourages communication, learning, intelligent risk‑taking, and accountability.
- Lead supply‑optimization efforts, including consolidation, dual sourcing, and rationalization.
- Travel:
Requires 20% travel within North America, including overnight stays.
- Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, or associate’s degree with 8+ years, or 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Excellent analytical and project‑management capabilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication across regions, functions, and levels; fluent in English.
- Experience negotiating and managing services from large‑scale providers.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and MRP/supply‑chain systems.
- Commodity‑management experience with high‑dollar spend.
- Track record in supplier development, management, and sustained productivity.
- Strong financial acumen.
- Self‑starter who can work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to develop and recommend service/process alternatives and collaborate with corporate stakeholders and executives.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships internally and externally, establishing credibility with business partners.
- Experience supporting executives.
- Master’s degree in supply chain, engineering, or business.
- CPSM (ISM) or CSCP (APICS) certification.
- Expertise in other languages is a plus.
- Experience in managing commodities directly tied to corporate spend.
- Experience in consolidated, dual‑sourcing, and rationalization efforts.
