Job Description & How to Apply Below
At Interstates, safety is personal. It reflects how we care for people, how leaders show up, and how work gets planned and executed every day. We're looking for a Vice President of Safety who believes safety excellence is built through strong leadership, aligned systems, and a culture where everyone plays a role in looking out for one another.

This role provides enterprise level leadership for safety-setting the vision, strategy, and direction for a leader led, zero injury culture where safety is instinctive and embedded in how work gets done. The Vice President of Safety partners closely with executive, operational, and field leaders to strengthen safety culture maturity, prevent serious injuries, and ensure safety supports business performance, workforce sustainability, and client trust.

This opportunity is well suited for a senior safety leader who thrives in high risk environments, thinks systemically, and wants to make a meaningful, lasting impact on people, culture, and the organization as a whole.

What You'll Do:

Enterprise Safety Leadership & Strategy

* Establish and lead a multi year enterprise safety vision and strategy aligned with Interstates' core values and business objectives.

* Serve as the executive owner of safety culture, ensuring consistent expectations, language, and leadership behaviors across the organization.

* Elevate safety as a core leadership responsibility, fully integrated into business planning and decision making.

* Provide executive insight into emerging risks, industry trends, and evolving client and regulatory expectations.

Safety Culture & Leadership Accountability

* Lead the evolution of a leader led, behavior based zero injury culture built on trust, accountability, and learning.

* Define and embed clear safety leadership expectations at every level of the organization.

* Coach and influence executives, operational leaders, and field leadership through periods of change.

* Strengthen feedback loops, learning systems, and proactive risk identification practices.

Serious Injury & Fatality (SIF) Prevention

* Own and advance the enterprise SIF prevention strategy, focusing on high risk work, critical controls, and verification.

* Ensure near misses, high potential events, and SIF precursors are addressed systemically-not just corrected locally.

* Partner with operations and engineering to integrate risk controls into planning, design, and execution.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

* Ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations across operating geographies.

* Provide governance oversight for EHS standards, audits, and risk assessments.

* Incorporate safety risk into broader enterprise risk management discussions.

* Maintain strong regulatory credibility while keeping leadership and culture at the forefront.

Talent Leadership & Resource Stewardship

* Develop safety leadership capability across the enterprise.

* Mentor and develop the Directors of Safety and broader safety team to build succession and long term capability.

* Ensure training focuses on behavior change, leadership effectiveness, and risk awareness, not just rule adherence.

* Steward safety resources and budget, aligning investments with risk reduction and business priorities.

Executive Communication & External Leadership

* Represent Interstates with clients, industry partners, and professional organizations.

* Communicate safety performance, risks, and cultural insights to executive leadership and the Board as appropriate.

* Position Interstates as a leader in safety culture and SIF prevention.

What You Bring

* 10+ years of progressive safety leadership experience, including enterprise or multi region responsibility.

* Proven success leading safety culture transformation and reducing high risk exposures.

* Deep experience in high hazard industries such as industrial construction, mining, oil & gas, or similar adjacent fields.

* Demonstrated ability to lead through organizational change and influence at the executive level.

* Strong grounding in human performance, systems thinking, and safety leadership models.

* Bachelor's degree in safety, human behavior, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

* OSHA…
