Summary

The Sustainability Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of Green Plains’ sustainability program, including regulated fuel pathway management, data oversight, and program compliance. This role is responsible for maintaining and optimizing Carbon Intensity (CI) calculations, leading the rollout of CI tools, and supporting audits and verifications. The Sustainability Manager reports to the Director of Sustainability, Government & Regulatory Affairs.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Prevailing Wage and Apprenticeship programs at the facilities and partner with the third‑party provider to ensure continuous monitoring is completed.
  • Oversee daily operations of the sustainability program, including regulated fuel pathway management and data oversight.
  • Maintain and optimize CI calculations across all plants.
  • Lead the rollout and continuous improvement of the CI calculator.
  • Manage project coordination, data collection, documentation, and reporting support.
  • Educate operations teams on CI levers and operational decisions impacting 45Z and LCFS returns.
  • Support compliance and risk management activities, including audits and verifications.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional team members to identify and prioritize carbon reduction opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, business, information technology or related field (master’s preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in sustainability or compliance program management, data analysis, or regulated fuel pathways.
  • Experience with CI calculations, LCFS, and 45Z programs.
  • Strong project management, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Independently manage and resolve issues related to CI calculations and data integrity.
  • Identify operational improvements to reduce CI and enhance credit value, implementing solutions without escalation.
  • Address and resolve day‑to‑day program and data management challenges.
  • Develop and implement process improvements for data collection, reporting, and compliance support.
  • Make decisions on routine program operations and elevate only those with significant strategic or compliance risk.
