Nebraska Probation is seeking a dynamic leader for the role of Chief Probation Officer for District #4A in Omaha. This executive position is responsible for contributing to systemic leadership and directing the operation of the entire District Probation Office, serving as the face of the probation district and engaging with judges, law enforcement, treatment facilities, community organizations, and other stakeholders.

Location & Schedule

In‑office only. 1701 Farnam St, Ste 100, Omaha, NE 68183. Travel may be required k schedule may include non‑traditional hours.

Compensation

Salary range: $93,566.42 to $ annually. Starting salary may be determined based on qualifications, education, and experience, subject to fiscal constraints and approval.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and supervise all district probation staff, including Probation Supervisors, Probation Officers, District Placement Coordinators, Specialized Populations Officers, and administrative support.
  • Manage personnel actions: prioritization, performance evaluations, staff training, hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions.
  • Administer daily operations, directing programs and implementing practice improvements.
  • Ensure strict compliance with system rules, regulations, and federal, state, and local laws.
  • Develop and implement local policies and procedures with judges and staff; execute policy changes directed by the Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation.
  • Direct fiscal management: develop the district budget, review and approve staff‑prepared budgets, manage purchasing, track inventory, and authorize expenditures.
  • Prepare operational reports related to department performance, goals, budgets, investigations, personnel, and crime statistics.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all district staff members.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Minimum:
    Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform essential duties is considered.
  • Required knowledge of managerial principles, probation service administration, federal, state, and local laws, crisis and emergency management, grant administration, technical report writing, and data documentation.
  • Required skills:

    monitoring and evaluating subordinates, delegating and prioritizing work, managing district staff, preparing and approving reports, administering department grants, handling stressful situations with de‑escalation skills, analyzing and implementing policy changes, interpreting laws and regulations, computer proficiency, and strong communication skills.
Physical & Environmental Demands

Classification:
Light Work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds frequently to move objects. Principally seated, occasionally using arm and leg controls. May be exposed to limited workspace restrictions, environmental threats, dust, odors, inadequate lighting, and regional travel.
