JOB SUMMARY

The Donated Goods Acquisition and Sustainability Manager leads initiatives to grow donated goods, strengthen community and business partnerships, expand recycling and salvage opportunities, and advance Goodwill’s sustainability goals. This position develops and executes strategies that increase donation volume, generate salvage and recycling revenue, reduce waste, and expand Goodwill’s presence in the community. The manager works across departments and with external partners to turn strategic opportunities into measurable operational and community impact.

ESSENTIAL

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and implement strategies, goals, and action plans for donated goods acquisition, sustainability, recycling, salvage, and community engagement.
  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with businesses, schools, faith-based organizations, community groups, municipalities, and other organizations to generate donated goods and expand Goodwill’s community presence.
  • Develop and cultivate strategic donation partnerships while leading donation drives, community events, partner pickups, recycling activities, and other initiatives that increase donated goods, advance sustainability objectives, and strengthen long-term community engagement.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to identify, pursue, and support grant, sponsorship, and funding opportunities related to suitability, recycling, donated goods acquisition, community outreach, and mission-focused initiatives, including preparation of proposals, applications, supporting documentation, and required reports.
  • Identify and develop recycling and salvage opportunities for commodities such as shoes, books, wire, plastics, electronics, toys, cardboard, textiles, and other materials.
  • Evaluate commodity markets, vendors, transportation requirements, and processing costs to maximize recycling and salvage revenue while supporting organizational sustainability goals.
  • Solicit proposals, negotiate pricing and service terms, secure qualified vendors, and maintain productive vendor relationships.
  • Establish and monitor performance measures for donation acquisition, recycling, salvage, and sustainability initiatives; analyze operational and financial results; identify opportunities for improvement; and implement strategies that increase donations, strengthen partnerships, reduce waste, and advance organizational sustainability.
  • Develop and manage project plans, budgets, timelines, and resources for assigned initiatives while assisting with annual budget planning and monitoring related expenses and revenue.
  • Prepare and present reports and updates regarding donation growth, partnership development, sustainability outcomes, grant activity, revenue impact, and community impact.
  • Represent Goodwill at community meetings, business events, partner presentations, donation drives, and other activities that support the organization’s mission and strategic objectives.
  • Comply with all Goodwill policies, procedures, and safety standards, as well as applicable CARF, Department of Labor, OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Promote a safe, healthy, inclusive, and positive environment that supports the physical and emotional well-being of employees, customers, donors, partners, and program participants.
