A Brief Summary of This Position:
We are seeking a dedicated and strategic Environment & Sustainability Manager to lead and implement environmental and sustainability programs across the North and South Americas region. This role is responsible for supporting compliance with environmental regulations, driving sustainability initiatives, and supporting environmental and sustainability strategies with broader business objectives. This role serves as the Americas lead for Valmont's global environmental and sustainability programs, partnering closely with the International Environment & Sustainability Manager to support globally aligned strategy, governance, and execution across all operating regions.
This position operates as a peer to the International role, with shared accountability for global performance and consistency. Reporting to the Global Director – Environment & Sustainability, this role translates global strategy into regional execution while providing strategic input to shape enterprise environmental direction.
The ideal candidate will have a mastery of environmental regulations, corporate reporting frameworks, and the ability to collaborate effectively with and influence cross-functional teams. In addition to leading environmental and sustainability initiatives, this individual will provide technical expertise and guidance to regional EHS leadership, site EHS teams, commercial partners, and other business leaders, ensuring consistent interpretation and execution of environmental and sustainability compliance requirements across global operations.
The expected focus for the role is approximately 70% environmental and 30% sustainability.
Essential Functions:
- This position reports to the Global Director – Environment & Sustainability and operates as a senior leader within a globally distributed model partnering with the International Environment & Sustainability Manager to ensure alignment across regions. May also work collaboratively under the guidance of other EHS leadership functions. The role has no direct reports but serves as a key influencer across operational, commercial, and functional teams globally.
- Serves as an internal consultant and subject matter expert, providing technical expertise and guidance to site EHS teams, regional EHS leadership, commercial partners, and business leaders to support environmental compliance and sustainability alignment.
- Acts as the Americas functional leader for environmental & sustainability programs providing direction, coaching & performance across a matrixed EHS organization without direct reporting authority.
- Leads efforts to bolster the environmental acumen of Valmont EHS professionals, aligning knowledge levels with health and safety competencies.
- Remains abreast of global environmental and sustainability regulatory trends—leveraging a third-party service provider—and drives risk-based impact assessments and enterprise communication strategies through web-based training, newsletters, stakeholder briefings, and other communication channels.
- Influence environmental and sustainability standards, procedures and playbooks, ensuring consistent implementation and compliance across the Americas.
- Leads the Americas PFAS activities, including jurisdictional guidance and timely, accurate reporting for all impacted operations.
