The primary duties of a Business Class Director (BCD) include responsibilities for company-wide development, coordination, monitoring, and improvement of technical competencies of business class staff, products, and services to meet client needs, response to market drivers, and risk management across HDR. Business Class Directors support the needs of all Market Sectors, Business Groups, and geographic regions, as appropriate to their areas of practice, expertise, and focus.

Specifically, the Integrated Watershed Management (IWM) Business Class Director is responsible for the direction, coordination, and quality of work for HDR’s service lines that include watershed management, water supply, groundwater and water quality. Responsibilities include building close working relationships with related business classes, market sectors, business groups and operations. The IWM BCD will facilitate technical service areas in risk management for large-scale, multi- discipline and multi-benefit projects.

The position will build and maintain the industry presence, reputation, and participation in professional organizations to raise the profile of the practice.

As part of these duties, the IWM Business Class Director will participate in client management, support proposal and project development, and be an active member of professional organizations. Business development participation is primarily through technical differentiation, pursuit strategy input, and client-facing brand elevation. The person will mentor and direct technical leaders that help manage and execute the mission of the business class.

The position participates in and provides oversight of planning, modeling, and design services for service areas within the business class.

• Provide company-wide leadership of technical capabilities within the business class.
• Build close working relationships and coordinate with related business classes, market sectors, business groups and operations.
• Lead and participate in technical risk management through process and resource reviews, providing technical advisory services on selected projects, and maintain quality standards and delivery expectations.
• Drive quality assurance and control processes and coordinate with the WBG Quality Manager in those areas.
• Oversee development and application of technical tools, standards, and techniques to enhance service quality and efficiency. Ensure that technical staff are aware of and monitoring emerging technologies.
• Work with market sector directors to develop strategic plan for the business class and provide strategic and tactical business trend input to business group leadership at the national, regional, area and local levels.
• Facilitate business class teamwork, communication and work sharing between offices, business classes, management, marketing, and staff.
