This position supports daily production by setting up and operating CNC and conventional machining equipment to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. The role requires a strong quality-focused and continuous improvement mindset and involves working with a variety of materials, components, and special customer-specific setups.

Duties:
Including but not limited to:
  • Set up and operate CNC mills, CNC lathes, and conventional machining equipment.
  • Program and edit machine operations using M-code, G-code, and conversational programming languages.
  • Machine a variety of materials including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and plastics.
  • Study blueprints, drawings, sketches, specifications, manuals, and sample parts to determine machining requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on materials and work pieces.
  • Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials.
  • Calculate and adjust machining factors including speeds, feeds, coolant flow, depth of cut, and tool paths.
  • Monitor machine performance, identify issues, and make adjustments to maintain quality and accuracy.
  • Verify finished parts meet dimensional and quality specifications.
  • Conduct machine trial runs to confirm setup accuracy and program functionality.
  • Assemble components and verify proper fit, dimensions, and alignment.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, programming, and other departments to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Build fixtures for drilling, milling, and turning operations.
  • Review engineering, sales, and manufacturing information to ensure product accuracy and compliance with customer requirements.
  • Communicate product changes and corrections to appropriate departments to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Support and sustain 5S initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Follow quality, environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Ability to independently set up and operate CNC and conventional machining equipment.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting CNC machinery.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, fixtures, and work holding methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude including geometry, trigonometry, fractions, ratios, and tolerances.
  • Experience calculating speeds, feeds, chip loads, and machining parameters.
  • Knowledge of tooling geometry, surface finishes, and tolerance fits.
  • Ability to sharpen drills and tooling used in machining operations.
  • Experience with single-point threading, including internal, external, and taper pipe threads.
  • Ability to layout and measure bolt circles, coordinates, slots, and related features.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and production demands.
  • Familiarity with the Machinist's Handbook and ability to reference machining information as needed.
  • Experience in a quality-focused manufacturing environment preferred.
Education and Experience:
  • Associate's Degree in Machine Tool Technology, Tool and Die Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Completion of a Certified Apprenticeship Program is acceptable in place of a degree.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of machining experience in a manufacturing or job shop environment preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
