Deliver DWS product and materials based on customers need, and DOT and DWS standards in a courteous, efficient, and safe manner. Load and unload materials onto or off of trailers.
Essential Job Functions- Deliver product in a safe and efficient manner.
- Help customer unload truck, if necessary.
- Identify steel shapes, and sizes.
- Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, jib cranes, and gantry cranes in order to move materials.
- Locate material as trained and instructed.
- Locate beams, tubes, angle, channel, rebar, bar grating, pipe, plate, or rounds.
- Load/unload trailers, railcars, based on job sequences.
- Any other duties assigned by management.
- Attend all meetings as required by management.
- Consistently and reliably works scheduled hours at assigned locations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to operate a commercial vehicle in a safe and professional manner.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical.
- Ability to understand and follow all established DOT guidelines.
- Ability to effectively communicate with customers, vendors, co-workers, supervisors and managers.
- Ability to understand and carry out semi-complicated verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to read, write, and perform higher arithmetic computations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimals and fractions.
- Ability to work under periodic supervision focused on the progress of work and setting priorities for job completion.
- Skill in using tape measure.
- Ability to pass a Drake-Williams Steel, Inc. administered test that covers shop drawing interpretation, fractional number calculations, basic geometry, etc.
- Ability to interpret and understand shop orders, and shop drawings.
- Ability to possess pride in own workmanship, demonstrate attention to detail, and work safely.
- Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes in a safe and proper manner. Use and understand industry and Drake-Williams Steel adopted hand signals used for crane operations.
- Perform minor mechanical tasks on equipment (daily inspections, cleaning, etc.)
- Ability to multi-task.
- Stand OCCASIONALLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
- Walk OCCASIONALLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
- Sit OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
- Lift weights up to 35 pounds FREQUENTLY from floor to head, which includes the various tools, blocks, and buckets utilized in the process of performing the usual work duties during the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
- Lift weights up to 50 pounds OCCASIONALLY from knee to shoulders, which includes the various tools, blocks, and buckets utilized in the process of performing the usual work duties during the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
- Carry weights noted above distances ranging from a few feet to 20 feet.
- Climb OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY up and down steps ranging up to 21” ladders, onto material, or onto trailers with heights ranging up to 13 feet.
- Stoop or crouch OCCASIONALLY while performing the regular job duties. The position will be held continuously for a few seconds to 15 minutes, depending upon the job.
- Kneel in the commission of job duties OCCASIONALLY, depending upon the job.
- Crawl OCCASIONALLY up to 10 feet to access tools, chains, cables, materials, etc.
- Reach forward OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to perform job duties or to retrieve tools. The employee will OCCASIONALLY be required to reach to full forward extension.
- Reach overhead OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to guide material attached to the cranes, to attach the chains from the crane to the material, to locate blocks, or to saw blocks.
- Push material/handle in downward motion OCCASIONALLY with a force of up to 100 pounds.
- Push and pull material staged on a trailer or floor OCCASIONALLY with pry bar to properly stage material. Force varies up to 50 pounds.
