In this role, you will help advance MAC’s advocacy and economic development efforts by strengthening community relationships, supporting fundraising and partnerships, and elevating the voices of underserved communities and small businesses across the Midlands region.

The Community Engagement & Development Associate will design and implement community engagement initiatives, support resource development and fundraising efforts, and coordinate programs and events that promote economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, and workforce development within the underserved and small business communities across the Midlands region.

Key Responsibilities Community Advocacy & Strategic Partnerships
  • Advance MAC’s advocacy priorities by engaging community members, business owners, and partners around policies, initiatives, and systems that impact underserved and small business communities
  • Serve as a bridge between the community and key decision-makers, including policymakers, funders, corporate leaders, and institutional partners.
  • Support advocacy campaigns, listening sessions, forums, and round tables that elevate community voices and inform policy and programmatic solutions.
  • Build and sustain strategic partnerships with nonprofits, chambers, government agencies, and civic organizations to advance shared advocacy and economic development goals.
  • Represent MAC at advocacy-related meetings, coalitions, public forums, and community convenings.
  • Support outreach strategies that increase civic engagement, awareness, and participation in MAC-led advocacy efforts.
Membership Support
  • Assist the overall success of the membership program and the Chamber
  • Assist visitors interested in obtaining membership
  • Update database of members and chamber contacts
  • Compile price lists and negotiates contracts for services, dates, times, and spaces.
  • Consult with the Chamber and coordinate with staff to plan and develop event schedules, topics, and featured speakers.
  • Ensure that events meet legal, safety, and health requirements and regulations;
    Coordinates registration process for event participants.
  • Manages all administrative duties and details associated with the event including financial operations, distribution of promotional materials, and responding to inquiries.
Development & Fundraising Support
  • Support fundraising and resource development efforts, including sponsorship outreach, donor engagement, and grant-related activities.
