Homelessness Prevention Specialist - Sorting Area
Join the Open Door Mission's team of dedicated staff who are committed to full-time Christian ministry and breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty!
ABOUT THIS POSITIONPerform all duties around the Council Bluffs Outreach Center and the Timberlake Outreach Center, as directed. Build relationships with volunteers in an effort to retain them. Facilitate stocking the outreach center and pantry. Check in consumers at the front desk.
Our Timberlake and Council Bluffs Outreach Centers provides free clothing, shoes, toys, household items, diapers, and client-choice food pantries. Additionally, it collects community donations, which are used to stock the shelves in this site as well as our other outreach locations.
RESPONSIBILITIESA full job description will be provided for review during the interview process.
- Walk through the sorting and bedding areas to determine what is needed for the day, communicate with co-workers about what areas need to be restocked.
- Ensure the sorting area is clean and well organized, take gaylords as they are emptied, replace empty gaylords with gaylords of full product.
- Assist with stocking, sorting, and organizing of Outreach Center shelves with home goods, clothing, food, toys, and other items as needed.
- Communicate and work with the Receiving Area Staff to bring in product that is needed.
- Provide spiritual help and encouragement to volunteers and guests when the opportunity arises.
- A visible relationship with Jesus Christ, and ability to share the gospel as opportunities arise.
- Consistent attendance at a local Christian church.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and sit/stand/walk for prolonged periods.
- Ability to repeatedly bend and lift items from floor level.
- At least 2 years of customer service experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Experience working with people and handling multiple tasks.
- Must agree with the Open Door Mission Statement of Faith.
