Position: Registered Nurse Behavioral Health- $15,000 Hiring Bonus!

Overview

Boys Town National Research Hospital provides nursing care to assigned youth by overseeing health and wellness, implementing daily nursing care routines, including medication administration and infection control, and managing emergency care. The nurse works as part of the treatment team, following the Psycho-educational Model (PEM) of treatment.

Hiring Bonus: $10,000

Work Hours & ShiftS

Full & Part Time Evening shifts available.

  • Full Time Evening Shift: 2:30 PM to 11 PM, requires every other weekend.

  • Part Time Evening Shift: every other weekend.

Full & Part Time Overnight shifts available.

  • Friday through Sunday 10 PM to 8:30 AM (30 hours per week).

  • Full Time: 10 PM to 8:30 AM – 4 days per week, 10‑hour shifts.

Major Responsibilities & Duties
  • Implement daily nursing care routines for assigned youth, including medication administration and inventory management, and provide education on medications and health concerns.
  • Oversee general health of youth, including infection control, scheduling medical appointments, accompanying youth, and assisting with physician rounds.
  • Provide appropriate medical or mental health emergency care and keep physician and administrative staff apprised of all untoward events.
  • Participate in the admission process by completing initial mental status and physical assessment, informing the supervising practitioner of immediate medical concerns, and orienting youth and their families.
  • Follow approved program and hospital guidelines for documentation of medical orders, assessments, medication administration, education, and other health concerns.
  • Demonstrate continued competencies in special treatment procedures under the guidance of the psychiatrist, and comply with policies for youth physical intervention (personal restraint) in emergencies.
  • Display professionalism through teamwork, supporting the PEM, receiving and providing timely feedback, and maintaining effective communication with coworkers, supervisors, and consumers. Model appropriate life‑skills behaviors.
  • Assist shift managers with supervisory and administrative oversight.
  • Provide patient care and education according to the patient population served.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Resolve conflict in crisis situations.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Communicate concisely and well with diverse staff, coworkers, and consumers.
  • Understand mental health needs and potential medical interventions for youth of various ages.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Operate under adverse conditions, including interruptions and potential verbal/physical threats from youth.
  • Help maintain a safe and positive environment for youth and co‑workers.
  • Use various computer programs, including Windows and Office.
  • Demonstrate leadership, interpersonal skills, teaching ability, and flexibility in scheduling.
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school with a current state license.
  • PEM training within six months of hire.
  • CPR (BLS) certification.
  • Maintain current CPR, PEM, and a nationally recognized personal restraint model; these must be obtained during pre‑service training.
  • Minimum 20 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous behavioral health nursing experience.
