American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical ICU position on night shifts in a Level 1 Trauma setting, requiring NE or compact RN license and ICU experience.
Responsibilities- Position is in the Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within an acute care hospital
- Level 1 Trauma Center with 34 ICU beds
- Adult and pediatric patients over 15 years old, including neurosurgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, renal failure, general surgery, psych/overdose, GI bleeds, and oncology surgical cases
- Nurse to patient ratios are 1:1-2 for ICU, 1:4-5 for PCU, and 1:5-6 for Med Surg
- RNs titrate vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Use of advanced equipment including CRRT, Impella, balloon pump, Alines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard, Bell Mont rapid transfuser, and mechanical ventilation systems
- EMR: Epic
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts ), with every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage expected for 2 out of 3 major holidays or as determined by unit needs
- Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
- Responsibilities include managing complex ICU patients, titrating critical care medications, and utilizing advanced monitoring equipment
- Collaborates with a team-oriented environment including attendings, fellows, residents, and support staff
- Orientation includes two unit-specific shifts and a comprehensive skills assessment
- Support from charge nurses, nurse aids, and patient care techs available
- RTO (requested time off) must be provided up front and is limited to 7 days per 13 week contract
- Scrub color is navy blue
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Ability to read and interpret EKG/telemetry (Draeger centralized monitoring)
- References including one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
- Driver's license required to verify permanent address, must reside at least 50 miles from facility
- Candidates may not be employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
- Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
- Pass/fail skills exam during orientation with a required score of 90%
