Job Summary

Radius Rule: 50 miles. Driver’s license required at submittal and will be used to verify distance outside the 50-mile radius.

Policies & Requirements

Fingernail policy:
Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments. Refusal to remove artificial nails will result in termination of contract.

RN Exam Requirement:
Pass/Fail exam on Friday during orientation. Open-book exam based on skills learned. All necessary resources are provided. Must score 90% or higher to pass or contract will be terminated.

Patient Population & Diagnoses
  • Adults and pediatrics over 15 years old
  • Neurosurgery (initiating neuro interventionalist with thrombectomy program – experience not required)
  • Respiratory failure
  • ARDS
  • MODS
  • Sepsis
  • Stroke
  • Cardiogenic shock (Impella, balloon pump – experience not required)
  • Renal failure (CRRT – experience not required)
  • General surgery
  • Psych/overdose patients
  • GI bleeds
  • Cancer-specific surgeries including:
    Esophagectomy, Internal chemotherapy administration
Equipment & Monitoring
  • CVP
  • SA-lines
  • Swans
  • EV-1000
  • ICP monitoring (training provided in real time)
  • Zoll Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol
  • Belmont rapid transfuser
Drips & Medications
  • common drips include:
    Vasopressors, Paralytics, Narcotics, Sedation, Antiarrhythmics
Staffing & Support
  • Charge nurse present on each shift
  • Charge nurse does take an assignment
  • Charge nurse attends RRTs and codes
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs available (Ratio: 1:18)
  • Respiratory Therapy:
    Equipment includes nasal cannula through ventilators
  • RNs are required to troubleshoot respiratory equipment
  • Telemetry:
    No telemetry/monitor techs on unit. Draeger heart monitoring system with centralized telemetry. RNs must read and interpret their own strips
Scheduling

Shifts:

0630–1830, 1830–0630

Scheduling is manager-driven based on unit needs.

Weekend & Holiday Requirements
  • Weekends:
    Every other
  • Holidays: 2 out of 3 major holidays OR Every other OR As needed based on unit needs
Floating Requirements
  • Float to all inpatient units (Excludes Maternity and NICU)
Dress Code

Scrub color:
Navy Blue

Orientation

2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation

Fast-paced unit with fluctuating volume. Primary tertiary hospital for the system. Successful nurses demonstrate:
Ability to ask questions, Positive attitude, Willingness to help others, Strong critical thinking skills, Personable nature, Team-oriented environment, Collaboration with attendings, fellows, and residents to deliver high-quality care.

Time Off & Administrative

Radius rule reiterated: 50 miles. RTO must be submitted upfront. Maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract. Additional RTO will not be approved after submission.
