American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Trauma ICU position at a Level 1 trauma center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities- 18-bed Trauma ICU within an acute care hospital designated as a Level 1 trauma center
- Adult and pediatric (15+) patient population including complex trauma, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, and cardiac arrest
- Nurse‑to‑patient ratio of 1:1‑2 (ICU) and 1:4 (PCU)
- RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Specialized equipment includes CVPs, IABP, Impella, A‑lines, Swan‑Ganz catheters, EV‑1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll‑Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol, and Belmont rapid transfuser
- Respiratory support ranges from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation; RNs are expected to troubleshoot RT equipment
- Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry — no monitor techs on unit; RNs must be able to read and interpret their own cardiac strips
- Charting is done in Epic
- 12‑hour night shifts, 1830–0630
- Self‑scheduling managed by the unit manager based on unit needs
- 4 weekend shifts required per 6‑week scheduling period
- Floating required to inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
- On‑call is not mentioned for this position
- First‑time travelers will not be considered for this position
- A manager interview is required for this position
- Candidates must pass an open‑book, pass/fail skills exam (90% minimum) during orientation — failure results in contract termination
- 2 shifts of unit/department‑specific orientation provided
- Fast‑paced unit caring for critically ill patients; critical thinking, a positive attitude, and strong teamwork are essential for success
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
- RTO must be disclosed upfront; a maximum of 7 days per 13‑week contract is permitted, and no additional RTO will be approved after consideration
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience required
- BSN is not required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Cannot be currently employed full‑time, part‑time, or PRN at any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
