Summary
The Nebraska-Western Iowa VA Health Care System is seeking a compassionate, patient-centered Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team. Qualifications- English Language Proficiency – Proficient in basic written and spoken English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
- Nursing Education – Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an appropriate accrediting agency (ACEN or CCNE). Alternatively, applicants in a master’s level bridge program may qualify if coursework is equivalent to a bachelor’s level degree and a state license is obtained before completion.
- Foreign‑Graduate Requirements – Only a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration from a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia will be considered. Foreign education above associate level requires formal degree equivalency validation from an accepted evaluator (e.g., ICD).
- Grade Determinations – Applicants must meet the scope, education, and dimension criteria for the appropriate grade (Nurse I–III) as detailed in the online assessment. See (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Questionnaire/ for specifics.
- Physical Requirements – Must complete a pre‑employment evaluation or examination.
- Responsible for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care in the Surgery Clinic Outpatient setting.
- Coordinate care with a focus on patient education, self‑management, and customer satisfaction across the continuum of care.
- Administer medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
- Assist with patient intake, vitals, rooming, and related tasks.
- Provide patient education before and after procedures.
- Assist providers during non‑sedation procedures.
- Review patient appointment lists to identify past medical history, medications, allergies, and other critical information.
- Obtain ACLS certification after accepting the position.
- Float to various clinics within the Surgical Specialty Clinic, and potentially to other areas during the day.
- Preferred Experience – Surgery and clinic experience.
- Certifications – ALS and BLS.
- Benefits – VA Nurse Total Rewards Pay: competitive salary with regular increases; potential performance awards. Paid Time Off: 50 days per year (26 annual leave days, 13 sick leave days, 11 paid Federal holidays). Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and 401(k) with up to 5% employer contribution. Health, vision, dental, life, and long‑term care insurance.
Work Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm.
