The Operating Room Registered Nurse provides comprehensive patient care throughout the perioperative process, ensuring safety, comfort, and quality of care during surgical procedures.
Responsibilities- Prepares the operating room ensuring instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are ready.
- Assists in positioning and preparing patients for surgery, ensuring comfort and safety.
- Maintains a sterile field throughout surgical procedures and adheres to infection control protocols.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgical team, providing instruments, supplies, and support promptly.
- Monitors the patient's condition during surgery and documents significant changes.
- Handles surgical instruments and supplies, ensuring proper use, sterilization, and disposal.
- Manages specimen collection, labeling, and transport according to protocols.
- Documents all aspects of patient care accurately and thoroughly.
- Participates in patient handoff communication during pre‑ and post‑operative phases.
- Assists in cleaning and restocking the operating room between cases.
- Collaborates with the surgical team to ensure compliance with facility policies and standards.
- Follows hospital safety rules and procedures, including proper use of PPE and infection prevention measures.
- Performs other duties as assigned within scope of practice.
- At least 1 year of recent experience as an Operating Room RN.
- Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations.
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC).
- ACLS, PALS, or ENPC certification (AHA/ARC).
- OR Nursing Certification (CNOR).
- Other certifications and licenses as required.
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent reading, writing, and verbal communication in English.
- Proficiency in PC skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Physical ability to remain stationary, move equipment up to 100 lbs, push, pull, and bend.
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with personnel at all levels and maintain professionalism.
- Technical/motor skills for fine manipulation and equipment handling during procedures.
- Mental resilience to handle frequent public contact, meet deadlines under pressure, and work with irregular schedules.
- Sensory acuity for effective communication and visual tasks.
