Job Summary

The Operating Room Registered Nurse provides comprehensive patient care throughout the perioperative process, ensuring safety, comfort, and quality of care during surgical procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares the operating room ensuring instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are ready.
  • Assists in positioning and preparing patients for surgery, ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Maintains a sterile field throughout surgical procedures and adheres to infection control protocols.
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgical team, providing instruments, supplies, and support promptly.
  • Monitors the patient's condition during surgery and documents significant changes.
  • Handles surgical instruments and supplies, ensuring proper use, sterilization, and disposal.
  • Manages specimen collection, labeling, and transport according to protocols.
  • Documents all aspects of patient care accurately and thoroughly.
  • Participates in patient handoff communication during pre‑ and post‑operative phases.
  • Assists in cleaning and restocking the operating room between cases.
  • Collaborates with the surgical team to ensure compliance with facility policies and standards.
  • Follows hospital safety rules and procedures, including proper use of PPE and infection prevention measures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within scope of practice.
Required Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of recent experience as an Operating Room RN.
  • Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations.
  • Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC).
Preferred Qualifications
  • ACLS, PALS, or ENPC certification (AHA/ARC).
  • OR Nursing Certification (CNOR).
  • Other certifications and licenses as required.
Required Essential Skills
  • Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent reading, writing, and verbal communication in English.
  • Proficiency in PC skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Physical ability to remain stationary, move equipment up to 100 lbs, push, pull, and bend.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with personnel at all levels and maintain professionalism.
  • Technical/motor skills for fine manipulation and equipment handling during procedures.
  • Mental resilience to handle frequent public contact, meet deadlines under pressure, and work with irregular schedules.
  • Sensory acuity for effective communication and visual tasks.
