Job Summary
Location:
Nebraska Methodist Hospital ICU, Address: 8303 Dodge Street, Omaha.
Work Schedule:
Days 6a-6p. Three 12‑hour shifts per week. Rotating weekdays, weekends, holidays.

- Coordinate patient care in the critical care setting by utilizing the processes of assessment and diagnosis of health status.
- Provide direct patient care, including obtaining patient history, performing assessment via observation, interview, and examination; order, perform and interpret diagnostic studies; provide direct treatment and management of acute and chronic disease conditions; develop and implement a patient‑centered plan of care in collaboration with physicians, patients, consultants, nurses, ancillary care providers, and others as appropriate.
- Develop and implement treatment, order diagnostic tests, perform therapeutic procedures and prescribe medications according to clinical guidelines.
- Follow up and evaluate plans for patient outcomes.
- Collaborate with physicians and other disciplines, providing regular and consistent feedback.
- Use appropriate assessment techniques and diagnostic information; perform tests relevant to patient condition and record findings.
- Order appropriate ancillary tests.
- Derive diagnosis from assessment data and diagnostic information as data becomes available.
- Incorporate research into clinical practice as appropriate.
- Implement interventions consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Apply established therapeutic practices to patient’s problem.
- Prescribe medications according to Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA.
- Generate consults and referrals to appropriate services and specialties as needed to further diagnose and/or progress of care.
- Evaluate patient care to determine response to care/interventions for optimal patient outcome.
- Recognize and address patient and family capabilities and limitations (physical and mental).
- Monitor outcomes and document patient response to interventions.
- Seek out new treatment methods necessary to ensure patient progress.
- Provide patient and family teaching and education specific to the patient’s health care.
- Interview and advise specific to patient needs, providing education on a timely basis.
- Provide education including but not limited to proper use of medication and health/illness prevention to ensure adequate knowledge/awareness.
- Work collaboratively with physicians and other team members to provide appropriate patient education tailored to patient needs and family ability to provide care.
- Use adult learning principles for teaching purposes, checking for understanding and being available for follow‑up questions.
- Maintain a professional behavior in attitudes, demeanor, and interactions to achieve the organization’s mission.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, staff, and patients.
- Be approachable and professional in working with other health professionals, patients, and their families.
- Maintain a professional appearance, behavior, and work environment.
- Initiate action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risk(s) to the patient, family, or hospital/clinic employees (e.g., falls, needle sticks, patient concerns).
- Communicate to appropriate personnel regarding unresolved issues.
- Serve as a role model in the provision of emerging care.
- Serve as a reliable and knowledgeable resource for staff.
- Participate in meetings, research on special projects, and professional organizations.
- Serve as a liaison between patient, family, physician, and hospital staff.
- Comply with the bylaws, rules, and regulations of the organization as they pertain to Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants.
- Know and follow organization policy and procedures.
- Follow medical protocols for professional discipline.
- Maintain certification/lisensure.
- Follow guidelines of regulatory bodies (FDA, etc.).
- Maintain complete patient records.
