Job SummaryThe Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to residents during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The role delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of residents as per the care plan. The NA assists with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, vital sign measurement, psychosocial support, and personal care.
The NA helps residents transfer, reposition, walk, and perform range‑of‑motion exercises using appropriate techniques and equipment. Food preparation, dining assistance, and water and supplement provision are also part of the job. The NA documents resident interactions, behavior, and activity, communicates changes to the charge nurse, collects non‑invasive specimens, gathers vital signs, provides housekeeping and laundry support, facilitates wellness and recreational programs, and may participate in committees and task forces as needed.
High school graduate or GED preferred. Minimum age 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred. Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of employment by enrolling in a training program or in the process of obtaining certification through Endorsement. CNA training and certification are required and provided by the facility.
The applicant must satisfactorily complete yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits, with at least 12 hours of continuing education required annually. All department‑specific required certifications must be maintained. When applicable, certification and registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry are required. Depending on facility responsibilities, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver, requiring a vehicle report, proof of a valid driver’s license, and medical qualification to perform essential driving functions as per the Sanford Driving Policy.
