Certifications:
BLS and NIHSS required MS Neuro patients include any med/surg tele patient including strokes, any stable neurological deficit, post neurosurgery procedures in addition to any other Med Surg overflow no RT equipment troubleshooting - # of Beds: 25 - Nurse:
Patient Ratios: 1:5-6 - Common diagnosis / Types of patients:
Med Surg/Tele- joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive
- Are RN's required to titrate drips?:
Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine
- Common titratable &/or set rate drips: PCA pumps
- Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?:
Yes
- Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit? Ratios? Duties?:
Yes- 1:10-20 - Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RN's required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?:
Tele techs will interpret, RNs should have some tele awareness
- Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?): , // Travelers will be scheduled. Will approve a limited amount of block scheduling
- Weekend Requirements:
At least every other weekend, but additional weekend shifts may be required based on unit needs and census.
- Holiday Requirements: 2-3 Holidays from Thanksgiving to New Years.
- Floating Requirements:
Yes to other medical surgical areas or units with Med Surg patients waiting for a Med Surg bed
- Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs Provided?: RNs:
Navy Blue
- How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation?: 2 days
- Additional Notes:
Have mechanical lifts in every other room, Big focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness, This unit typically has multiple discharged and admissions in one day- a nurse is successful on this unit when they can manage the business of the day, have good attendance, are a team player, friendly, compassionate, and cares about patients first. They serve patients of all cultures on this unit including Spanish, Karen, Burmeese
