Position Overview

Serious Medicine is committed to delivering extraordinary patient care. This Surgical ICU Staff Nurse role supports a 12‑bed unit that treats patients who are hemodynamically or medically unstable with life‑threatening illnesses, including multiple traumas, solid organ transplants, organ failure or rejection, severe metabolic and electrolyte imbalance, and post‑operative surgical interventions.

Shift Details

• Third Shift (weeknight/overnight) – Full‑Time

• 12‑bed ICU unit

Responsibilities

Provide, prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care with other health care providers to meet the holistic needs of a designated group of patients in an emergent, critical, acute or interventional environment.

Qualifications
  • BSN required unless Exception A or B apply.
  • Effective communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated initiative, teamwork, and flexibility required.
  • RN license in Nebraska or valid compact state license.
  • BLS certification required.
  • PALS certification (department dependent) required; for ED, PALS within 6 months.
  • ACLS certification within 6 months (department dependent).
  • TNCC or ATCN within one year (department dependent).
  • Exception A:
    Must have current direct experience, be deemed best candidate, and receive written approval to hire without a BSN. If hired without a BSN, must have 30 years experience or agree to obtain a BSN within four years.
  • Exception B:
    Must be currently employed by Nebraska Medicine or eligible for rehire, hired before November 21, 2014, have direct experience, and hold an RN license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct patient care experience.
  • Experience in cardiology, cardiac drip management, critical care, emergency department, medical‑surgical, obstetrics, cardiovascular rehabilitation, telemetry, oncology, neonatal ICU, pediatric acute care, solid organ transplant, cath lab, EP lab, quality assurance, perioperative or specialty procedures.
  • MSN degree.
  • Completed courses such as STABLE, smoking cessation counseling, basic critical care or other specialty training.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Proficiency with email, patient care equipment, telecommunications, information systems, pneumatic tube system, general patient supplies, and transport equipment.
