RN- Step Down Critical Care

Overview

The Step‑Down Critical Care Unit (SDCC) is a 12‑bed unit in the Critical Care Division that provides care to patients needing a level of care between the intensive care units and the progressive care units. The unit collaborates with the Critical Care Intensivist and nursing staff to deliver extraordinary care to patients and their families.

Night Shift (12‑hour shift), Full time.

Provide, prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care with other healthcare providers to meet the holistic care needs of a designated group of patients. This includes caring for patients with trauma, surgery, transplants, lung disorders, and ventilated patients in long‑term, emergent, critical, acute, interventional, or procedural settings. Collaborate with the intensivist and nursing staff to ensure patient safety and deliver extraordinary care to patients and their families.

• Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required unless candidate meets all factors for Exception A or Exception B*.
• Effective communication skills required.
• Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork, and flexibility required.
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska or holding a valid compact state license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification departmental dependent required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of hire or transfer date, departmental dependent required.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) within one year of hire or transfer date, departmental dependent required.

• Direct patient care experience preferred.
• Experience in cardiology, cardiac drip management, critical care, emergency department, medical‑surgical, obstetrics, cardiovascular rehabilitation, telemetry, oncology, neonatal intensive care, pediatric acute care, solid organ transplant, cath lab, EP lab, quality assurance related to health care, perioperative, and special procedures.
• Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree preferred.
• Courses such as STABLE, smoking cessation counseling, basic critical care, or other specialty training preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) preferred.
• Proficiency with email, departmental equipment, and systems such as patient care equipment, telecommunication systems, information systems, pneumatic tube system, general patient care supplies, and transport equipment.
