Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology unit at a Level I Trauma Center in Nebraska, with night shift availability and experience in oncology or progressive care required.

Details
  • PCU, Med-Surg, and Oncology unit at a Level I Trauma Center in an acute care hospital setting
  • 27–28 bed mixed unit serving adult oncology and trauma patient populations
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 (PCU) and 1:5–6 (Med-Surg/Oncology) on nights
  • Common diagnoses include oncology (from diagnosis through remission or end-of-life) and trauma
  • Common drips include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix; RNs may be required to titrate insulin and cardizem
  • Competencies in ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000), and ICP monitoring are utilized on this unit (real-time training available)
  • EMR:
    Epic (experience within the past 6 months is noted but not required)
  • IV pump:
    Alaris
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Self-scheduling unit
  • Floating required to same level of care (Med-Surg and PCU units)
  • 13-week contract
Requirements
  • Active NE RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license, must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS certifications required — pending certifications not accepted
  • ONS/ONCC certification required
  • Minimum 1 year of PCU and/or oncology RN experience required
  • Chemotherapy certification preferred but not required
  • At least 1 year of charge nurse experience required
  • Active driver's license required — used to verify permanent residence is at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
Additional Information
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Orientation is 2 days and includes an open-book pass/fail exam on skills learned; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass
  • RTO must be disclosed upfront — 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination

  • Unit support includes nursing assistants, charge nurses, PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, and dietician
  • Hourly rounding is a patient experience priority on this unit
  • Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
