Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology unit at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 1 year of oncology and PCU experience with night shift availability.

Details
  • Mixed PCU, Med-Surg, and Oncology unit in an acute care hospital setting at a Level I Trauma Center
  • 28-bed unit serving adult oncology and trauma patients
  • Patient ratios: 1:4 (PCU days), 1:5 (Med-Surg days), and 1:5–6 (nights)
  • Common drips and medications include chemotherapy, heparin, Cardizem, and Protonix; RNs may be required to titrate insulin and Cardizem
  • Specialty equipment includes Alaris IV pumps and Lyko lifts
  • EMR:
    Epic (recent Epic experience within 6 months is noted for orientation planning purposes)
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Self-scheduling unit
  • Floating required to same level of care (Med-Surg and PCU units)
Requirements
  • Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Required certifications (must be active, no pending accepted): BLS (AHA), ACLS, and ONS/ONCC
  • Minimum 1 year of oncology and PCU nursing experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of charge nurse experience required
  • BSN not required
  • Chemo certification preferred but not required
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
  • Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health; those employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
  • RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure to pass results in contract termination
  • Orientation is approximately 2 days (12 hours)
  • Competencies in ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000), and ICP monitoring are beneficial; real-time training available for these skills
  • Multidisciplinary team support includes nursing assistants, charge nurses, PT/OT, RN case manager, social worker, educator, and dietician
  • Scrub color:
    Navy Blue
  • RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
  • Holiday coverage is expected
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
