Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) Stepdown position at a Level I Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring cardiac telemetry experience and night shift availability.

Details
  • Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit (CVU 5E) in an acute care, Level I Trauma hospital setting
  • 18-bed unit caring for intermediate-care patients and downgraded CVICU patients
  • Common diagnoses include post-cath lab patients, CVAs, CHF, A-fib RVR, and other cardiac and vascular conditions; unit heavily supports the thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart programs
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
  • RT is available 24/7; respiratory equipment on unit includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula
  • Remote tele techs are available, but RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips; unit has both hardwired tele and tele box capabilities
  • Charge nurse is present each shift and rarely takes a patient assignment
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs are available at a 1:18 ratio
  • Hospitalist and intensivist are in-house 24/7; cardiology is available on-call after hours
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirement
  • Floating required to same-level and lower-acuity units

Requirements
  • Active NE state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications will not be accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with at least 1 year of experience in a cardiovascular or cardiac stepdown patient population
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration (used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius)
Additional Information
  • 1–2 shifts of unit-specific orientation, tailored to the candidate's experience level
  • Candidates must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure to pass results in contract termination
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Artificial nails are strictly prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
  • Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility; those who worked PRN through an outside staffing firm will be considered
  • RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
