JOB SUMMARY

The Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) works collaboratively with the Podiatrist to provide comprehensive foot and ankle care to patients in both clinic and long-term care settings. This role focuses on preventative foot care, management of common podiatric conditions, routine nail care, diabetic foot evaluations, wound monitoring, and patient education. The APP will regularly travel to nursing homes to provide podiatric services, including toenail trimming and treatment of routine foot conditions.

ESSENTIAL

JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Perform comprehensive foot and lower extremity assessments.
  • Conduct routine diabetic foot examinations and risk assessments.
  • Provide routine and medically necessary nail care, including toenail trimming and debridement.
  • Evaluate and manage common podiatric conditions, including:
    • Thickened or dystrophic nails
    • Corns and calluses
    • Peripheral neuropathy
    • Diabetic foot concerns
    • Minor skin and soft tissue conditions
  • Assist with the management and monitoring of foot wounds as directed by the supervising physician.
  • Provide patient and caregiver education regarding foot health, diabetic foot care, footwear, and prevention strategies. Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
  • Travel to nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other long-term care settings to provide podiatric services.
  • Coordinate care with facility staff, primary care providers, and family members when appropriate.
  • Maintain compliance with facility requirements and healthcare regulations. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with nursing home partners.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree required, Doctorate preferred. Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who has completed the necessary education for certification and unrestricted licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practice required. A minimum of two (2) years of podiatry experience.
