Required Qualifications
  • One year of recent experience as a Stepdown RN
  • Current valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
  • Current BLS Certification (AHA/ARC)
  • Current ACLS Certification (AHA/ARC)

  • Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) Certification
  • NIHSS Certification
  • Other certifications or licenses relevant to the position
Summary

A Stepdown Registered Nurse provides care to patients transitioning from intensive care to medical‑surgical or general inpatient units. Responsibilities include monitoring patient conditions, administering treatments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Essential Work Functions
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and telemetry data to detect abnormalities and respond appropriately.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, with emphasis on cardiac care.
  • Prepare equipment and assist the physician during cardiac‑related procedures and examinations.
  • Maintain awareness of comfort and safety needs of telemetry patients.
  • Observe patients, record significant conditions and reactions, and notify supervisor or physician of a patient’s cardiac status and response.
  • Respond to life‑saving situations based on nursing standards and hospital protocols for cardiac emergencies.
  • Document nursing history and physical assessment for assigned telemetry patients.
  • Initiate patient education plans tailored to individual needs, focusing on cardiac health, risk factors, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care for telemetry patients.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice.
  • Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards.
Required Essential Skills
  • Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and use PC skills.
  • Physical Abilities – Maintain a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50‑100 lbs), push, pull, bend.
  • Interpersonal Skills – Work effectively with professional and ancillary personnel, presenting a positive attitude.
  • Technical/Motor Skills – Handle fine manipulation, push/pull, and mobility during procedures and use of equipment.
  • Mental Requirements – Manage frequent public interaction, meet deadlines under pressure, work under close supervision as needed, tolerate irregular activity schedules, and maintain concentration.
  • Sensory – Visual acuity and effective communication.
