Travel RN - Med​/Surg - Oncology

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 1 year of oncology and PCU experience with ACLS and BLS certifications.

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required; pending certifications not accepted
• ONS/ONCC chemotherapy certification preferred but not required
• Minimum 1 year of oncology and PCU nursing experience required
• Competency with hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000), ventilator management, and ICP monitoring (on-the-job training available for these)
• Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify permanent address for radius eligibility)
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting within a PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology unit at a Level I Trauma Center
• 28-bed mixed unit caring for oncology PCU and trauma PCU patients
• Day shift, 12-hour shifts (7a–7p)
• Every other weekend required
• Self-scheduling unit
• Daytime ratios: 1:4 (PCU) and 1:5 (Med/Surg); nighttime ratios: 1:5–6
• Common drips include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix; RNs may be required to titrate insulin and cardizem
• EMR:
  Epic (recent experience within 6 months is noted for orientation planning purposes)
• IV pumps:
  Alaris
• Floating required to same level of care (Med/Surg and PCU units)
• 2-day orientation provided
• 13-week contract
• Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered during orientation — a minimum score of 90% is required to pass
• RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Unit support staff includes nursing assistants, charge nurses, PT/OT, RN case manager, social worker, educator, and dietician
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
