Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level 1 Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring telemetry experience, ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications, and a NE or compact RN license.

Details
  • Work setting is an acute care hospital PCU (stepdown unit) on the 4th Floor East Wing
  • 55-bed unit serving primarily adult patients; pediatric patients are rare and are age 15 or older
  • Common diagnoses include CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and general weakness
  • Common medications and drips include PCA pumps for pain management, Cardizem, and insulin
  • RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4 on both day and night shifts
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating may be required, primarily to med-surg areas based on census needs
  • Charting is done in Epic (experience required)
  • Alaris IV pumps used
  • Mechanical lifts available in every other room
Requirements
  • Active NE state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications will not be accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Telemetry experience required
  • Experience in an acute care PCU or stepdown setting required
  • Level 1 Trauma facility experience applicable
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • A valid driver's license is required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (determined by driver's license address) to be eligible for this position
  • Candidates who are currently or were recently employed full time, part time, or PRN at any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility are not eligible — candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms may be considered
  • A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on Friday during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to continue the assignment
  • Navy blue scrubs are required; CNAs wear ceil blue
  • Unit support includes nursing assistants, a charge nurse, educator, care managers, social workers, dieticians, PT, and OT
  • Hourly rounding and patient responsiveness are key focuses on this unit
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
  • Manager interview required; no clinical component involved
  • A collaborative, team-oriented work environment where nurses support one another and manage a high volume of daily responsibilities
