American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a PCU/Oncology unit at a Level I Trauma Center in Nebraska, with ACLS and Epic experience required for this 13-week night shift contract.
Details- Work setting is an acute care PCU/Oncology unit (5 North) at a Level I Trauma Center
- Primary patient population includes adult oncology PCU and trauma PCU patients
- 18-bed unit with a patient ratio of 1:4–1:5 on both day and night shifts
- 12-hour night shifts (6:30p–7:00a)
- Every other weekend required
- Self-scheduling with balance adjusted to unit needs
- Travelers float to other Med/Surg and PCU units, with float assignments remaining at the same level of care
- Common drips and medications include chemotherapy, heparin, Cardizem, and Protonix; RNs occasionally titrate insulin and Cardizem drips
- High-flow oxygen equipment is commonly used on this unit
- EMR:
Epic - IV pumps:
Alaris - Two days of unit orientation provided
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required; pending certifications not accepted
- ONS/ONCC certification preferred but not required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong PCU experience required; oncology experience preferred but not required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — a valid driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Candidates may not currently be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Chemo certification is preferred but not required
- A pass/fail open-book exam is administered during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — all necessary resources are provided
- Candidates who were previously employed directly (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
- Support staff on the unit includes nursing assistants, charge nurses, PT/OT, RN case managers, social workers, an educator, and a dietitian
- Unit culture emphasizes genuine patient care, positive attitude, and teamwork across a diverse patient population, including oncology patients from diagnosis through remission or end-of-life care
- Hourly rounding and bedside shift report are key patient experience priorities on this unit
