Description:
RN's must pass a skills exam during orientation. This exam is open book and allows access to necessary resources. A score of 90% is required to pass; otherwise, termination will occur. Experience in oncology and PCU is preferred. The unit handles oncology and trauma patients. Common patient diagnoses include oncology and trauma. RNs are required to titrate certain medications, such as insulin and cardizem.
Common medications include chemotherapy, heparin, and protonix. RNs will float between PCU and Med-Surg units. There is nursing assistant support and a charge nurse on the unit. IV pumps and specialty equipment are available for use. The focus on patient experience includes hourly rounding. Teamwork and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds are essential. The unit cares for patients from diagnosis to remission or end-of-life care.
Cancellation policy allows for the hospital to cancel shifts during the assignment. Charting is done using an electronic medical record system.
