American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Level I Trauma Emergency Department position requiring recent Level 1 or 2 trauma experience and an active NE or compact RN license.
Details- Acute care Emergency Department in a Level I Trauma Center that is also Pediatric Certified and a Comprehensive Stroke Center
- 13-week assignment on night shift
- 12-hour shifts with scheduling options including , , , , and
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week
- 20-bed unit including 5 trauma bays, 10 OBS beds, and hallway beds
- 6-bed Fast Track and 3 triage beds
- Patient ratios of 1:4 in zones, 1:6 in Fast Track, 1:5 in OBS, and 1:1 for ICU/Trauma patients
- Common diagnoses include trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, and stroke requiring TPA administration
- 24/7 in-house security stationed in the ER
- ED physicians and mid-levels staffed on all shifts along with a charge nurse each shift
- Support staff including nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, and patient sitters at ratios of 1:10 in OBS and 1:20 in main ED
- Tele/Monitor techs available, but RNs are required to read and interpret their own strips
- Uses Epic EMR
- Weekend and holiday requirements vary based on department needs
- Floating required at least once weekly to the OBS unit and the Freestanding Creighton ER
- 1 week of unit-specific orientation including 2 shifts at the main facility and 1 shift at the Freestanding ER
- Active NE or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC
- NRP certification preferred
- Recent Level 1 or Level 2 trauma experience required
- BSN not required
- Driver's license required at time of consideration to verify residency distance
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Provide emergency nursing care in a fast-paced, high-acuity Level I Trauma Center
- Interpret and read own telemetry strips despite availability of monitor techs
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any Common Spirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity
- Artificial fingernails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- Must pass a Pass/Fail open-book exam on orientation Friday covering skills learned during onboarding, requiring a 90% score to continue the assignment
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront for the 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved after submission
