Shifts available:

  • Full Time Evenings - 1 PM to 11 PM, rotating weekends
Major Responsibilities & Duties
  • Implements daily nursing care routines for assigned youth, including administration of medication, maintaining inventories of medication and nursing care items, and providing education about medications and health concerns to youth and families.
  • Oversees the general health of assigned youth, addressing infection control concerns, scheduling medical appointments, and accompanying youth to appointments when assigned. Assists with physician rounds in collaboration with other treatment team members.
  • Provides appropriate medical and/or mental health emergency care to youth, maintaining safety and notifying physicians and administrative staff of all untoward events.
  • Participates in the admission process, completing an initial mental status and physical assessment, informing the supervising practitioner of any immediate medical concerns, and orienting youth and family/legal guardian to the program.
  • Follows approved program and hospital guidelines for documentation of medical orders, physical and mental assessments, medication administration, youth education, and other health concerns.
  • Demonstrates continued competencies in performing special treatment procedures under the guidance of the psychiatrist, and complies with applicable policies for personal restraint in emergency safety situations.
  • Displays professionalism and effective communication with coworkers, supervisors, and consumers, supporting personal and professional development through staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Provides supervisory/administrative oversight.
  • Provides patient care and education appropriate to the youth population served.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to resolve conflict in crisis situations.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to communicate concisely both orally and in writing, and work well with diverse professional staff, coworkers, and consumers.
  • Ability to articulate an understanding of mental health needs and potential medical interventions for youth of various ages.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality.
  • Ability to tolerate adverse conditions such as constant interruptions, inappropriate behaviors, and verbal or physical threats from youth.
  • Ability to help maintain a safe and positive environment for youth and coworkers.
  • Ability to use a variety of computer programs, including Windows and Office applications.
Required Qualifications
  • Registered nurse graduate of an accredited school with a current state license.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills with teaching ability and flexibility in scheduling.
  • CPR (BLS) certification.
  • Training in nationally approved personal restraint model.
  • Minimum 20 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous behavioral health nursing experience.
Other Duties
  • Other duties may be required and assigned as determined by a supervisor.
  • Serves as a role model reflecting the values and principles of the organization.
Physical Requirements , Equipment Usage, Work Environment
  • Relatively sedentary role in a normal office administrative environment with minimal physical risks. Use of office equipment such as computer/laptop, monitor, keyboard, and workstation set-up.
