RN- Trauma Medical Surgical

Position Overview

Staff RN – 9 Trauma Medical Surgical Position. This 45-bed medical-surgical unit provides care to trauma patients who are hemodynamically and medically stable. The unit accepts patients from the Emergency Department, the ICU, or surgical or procedural services.

Full-time and part-time night shifts.

• Provide, prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care with other healthcare providers to meet the holistic care needs of the designated patients.
• Play an active role in a fast-paced unit focused on the acute and chronic needs of trauma patients.

• Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) required unless candidate meets all the factors to qualify for Exception A or Exception

• Effective communication skills.
• Demonstrated initiative, teamwork, and flexibility.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska or holding a current compact state license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association endorsed program.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, required department dependent and for the Emergency Department within six months of hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within six months of hire or transfer date, department dependent.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) within one year of hire or transfer date, department dependent.

• Exception A
  - Candidate meets all of the following:
• Has current experience directly applicable to the position.
• Is deemed the best candidate for the position.
• Has written approval to hire a candidate without a BSN from the hiring Director, Nursing Practice Professional Development & Informatics Executive Director and Chief Nursing Officer.
• If hired without a BSN, must either have 30 years of experience or sign a written agreement to obtain a BSN within four years of hire date.
• Exception B
  - Candidate meets all of the following:
• Is currently employed by Nebraska Medicine, or is eligible for rehire within 364 days of the previous termination date.
• Was hired by Nebraska Medicine before November 21 2014, or by an entity acquired by Nebraska Medicine before the acquisition.
• Has experience directly applicable to the position.
• Currently holds a Registered Nursing License.

• Direct patient care experience.
• Experience in cardiology, cardiac drip management, critical care, emergency department, medical-surgical, obstetrics, cardiovascular rehabilitation, telemetry, oncology, neonatal intensive care, pediatric acute care, solid organ transplant, cath lab, EP lab, quality assurance, perioperative and special procedures.
• Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.
• Courses such as STABLE, smoking cessation counseling, basic critical care, or other specialty training.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and email applications.
• Proficiency with departmental equipment, patient care systems, telecommunication systems, information systems, pneumatic tube system, and transport equipment.
