American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 trauma tertiary hospital, requiring 2+ years of recent ICU experience and NE or compact RN licensure.
Details- Med Surg ICU unit within a Level 1 trauma, primary tertiary acute care hospital
- 34-bed unit with nurse:patient ratios of 1:1-2 ICU, 1:4-5 PCU, and 1:5-6 MS
- Cares for adult and pediatric patients (15+ years) with diagnoses including neuro surgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, general surgery, psych/OD, GI bleeds, and cancer surgeries
- Utilizes CVPs, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser equipment
- RNs required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Charge nurse present each shift and responds to RRTs and Codes
- Patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio
- RT equipment ranges from nasal cannula to ventilators, with RNs troubleshooting as needed
- Draeger heart monitors used with centralized telemetry; RNs must read and interpret strips independently
- 12-hour night shifts scheduled
- Every other weekend required with holiday coverage of 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other, based on unit needs
- Floats to all inpatient units excluding Maternity/NICU
- Uses EPIC EMR system
- Active RN license (NE or Compact) required, pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Must be able to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently
- Driver's license required at time of consideration
- Fast-paced unit with volume flexes as the primary tertiary hospital for the health system
- Collaborates with attendings, fellows, and residents in a team-based care environment
- Success on this unit favors nurses with strong critical thinking, a positive attitude, and willingness to help others
- Interview with unit leaders required
- 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
- Navy blue scrubs required per dress code
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
- Must pass a pass/fail skills exam (open book, 90% required) during orientation
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any Common Spirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity)
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
