Essential Functions

The Department of Physics invites applications for a postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Nebraska  U.S. Department of Energy grant titled “A High-Throughput Computational and Experimental Approach to the Design of Unconventional Magnets” supports this position.

The Research Associate will support experimental research focused on the development and characterization of NV-diamond quantum nanosensors. This work will emphasize the use of magnetometry and NV-center-based quantum sensing to investigate nanoscale magnetic signals in nanomaterials and biosensing platforms. A primary application of this research will be the development of ultrasensitive detection strategies for micro

RNA (miRNA). The Research Associate will conduct laboratory experiments using advanced instrumentation, including magnetometry, NV-diamond quantum sensing, and single-molecule fluorescence, to study nanosensors designed for selective and sensitive miRNA detection.

The initial appointment will be for one year, contingent on funding, with a preferred start date of July 1, 2026. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.

Required Qualifications
  • PhD in Physics/Chemistry (or a related field) at the time of application.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to design, troubleshoot, and optimize experimental setups.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document and present research findings.
