Position SummaryThe Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Specialist is an experienced biochemist with broad experience in mass spectrometry maintenance, sample preparation, and analysis workflows. The specialist will work with Prof. John LaCava and his lab members, coordinate national and international collaborations, and engage with additional technical specialists as needed to assist in all stages of projects, including design, development, and analysis of mass spectrometry experiments performed by the LaCava lab.
The specialist will be principally responsible for the LaCava lab LC‑MS/MS infrastructure and related lab management, working closely with various scientists, graduate students, industry representatives, service technicians, and other key academic and industry collaborators.

Salary Range$55,400 - $83,100 per year.
Required Qualifications- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field (additional related post‑high‑school education will be considered).
- Experience: 3 years in a research laboratory setting including use of mass spectrometry.
- Computer Applications: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Mass spectrometry and proteomics including sample preparation, data acquisition for multiple instrument configurations, data analysis, instrument quality control/maintenance. Strong organizational, interpersonal, writing, collaborative research, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Mass spectrometry experience: Maintenance of hybrid Orbitrap mass spectrometers, methods for differential proteomics, analysis of post‑translational modifications, targeted and untargeted proteomic and metabolite analysis, data interpretation.
- Computer Applications: Outlook, Frag Pipe, DIA‑NN, Spectronaut, Max Quant, Perseus, R and/or Python.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong competence with mass spectrometry and downstream data analysis, proven ability to implement policies, working knowledge of Apple and PC systems, standard Microsoft and Adobe software, and ability to program in R and/or Python.
