Overview
The Department of Biochemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) is seeking applications for a postdoctoral research associate in cardiometabolic disease. This is a 12-month calendar year, 100% research, special appointment position based in Lincoln, Nebraska. The role focuses on mechanistic studies in vascular and inflammatory biology, with in vivo and in vitro components, data analysis, mentorship, and scholarly output.
Responsibilities- Perform in-depth literature searches to inform research strategies and develop protocols.
- Design and execute mechanistic experiments in vascular and inflammatory biology.
- Perform in vivo studies using murine models relevant to atherosclerosis, fatty liver, and acute lung injury.
- Conduct cell and organoid culture.
- Analyze molecular, physiological, and histological data and interpret results.
- Perform advanced bioinformatics analyses using current tools.
- Help train and mentor students, including undergraduate, rotating, and Ph.D. students.
- Prepare manuscripts, abstracts, and grant applications; present findings at national meetings.
- Assist with lab management and responsibilities such as ordering and organizing lab supplies.
- Accept committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other ad hoc tasks as requested at administrative levels.
- Minimum: Ph.D. in physiology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or a related field; strong experience in biochemical and molecular biology techniques, tissue processing and immunostaining, and small animal studies; at least one first-author peer-reviewed publication within the last two years.
- Preferred: Interest in learning advanced bioinformatic analyses (e.g., single-cell RNA-seq); motivation for research independence and career advancement; excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; experience in culturing primary endothelial cells, hepatocytes, hepatic stellate cells, and organoid culture.
